I can't claim any of my toons on WoW here. is there something I am missing?

After the recent DDoS attacks on the battle.net servers armory is not updating properly. Until armory updates your toon will not be able to be claimed because the gear removed to verify that a toon is yours will not update.

Other servers have been experiencing this problem prior to the DoS attacks (generally related to server mergers) so your individual problem could be either.

If you go to your armory page and at the bottom if it starts showing you current updated date then you should be able to try again at that point.
